Bank Account of 'Representative Assessee' for the deceased is not linked.

ITR 805 views 1 replies

Hi,

I successfully registered on IT site as "Representative Assessee" for my deceased father. He is eligible for TDS refund. I am able to file his ITR as Representative Assessee (Legal Heir). However, the bank account for refund still shows his own bank account which has been closed after his demise. I thought the IT Refund would automatically go to the Rep. Assessee's bank a/c but it seems that is not the case. I cannot link my own account because it fails saying PAN mismatch. I have held off submitting the ITR because this will only result in the Refund getting bounced back to IT Dept due to closed Bank a/c.

I have read several people have faced this same issue but have not seen any solution. One post is from this forum itself.

Any advice/help is appreciated.

Thanks.

To resolve the issue of the refund being sent to a closed bank account, you can follow these steps.

 - *File a Refund Reissue Request*: You need to file a request for refund reissue with the validated bank account of the legal heir. This can be done by logging into the income tax portal and following the necessary steps. -

*Register as a Legal Heir*: Ensure you have registered as a legal heir on the income tax portal and have a validated bank account linked to your PAN. -

*Update Bank Account Details*: Enter the bank account details of the legal heir in the return of income. This will ensure the refund is directed to the correct account. -

*Contact the Income Tax Department*: If you're unable to update the bank account details online, you may need to contact the income tax department directly for assistance.

Additionally, consider the following: - *Refund Issuance*: The refund will be issued in the name of the deceased person, so it's essential to ensure the bank account details are updated correctly. -

*Documentation*: Keep necessary documents ready, such as the death certificate, PAN card of the deceased, and legal heir certificate, in case of any further verification requirements.

It's also worth noting that the liability of the legal heir is limited to the extent of the assets inherited from the deceased.
