MY CLIENT IS A WORKS CONTRACTOR AND HE GOT REGISTERED IN AUGUST IN BANGALORE UNDER COT(COMPOSITION SCHEME) NOW HE WANTS TO CHANGE HIS REGISTRATION FROM COT TO VAT. AND NOT EXECUTED ANY WORK SO FOR THE TURNOVER IS NIL. WHEN I VISITED THE CONCERENED VAT OFFICE THEY SAID THAT WITHIN 12 MONTHS FROM THE DATE OF REGISTRATION THEY CANT CHANGE FOR COT TO VAT ITSEEMS IS IT TRUE. IF NOT CAN U TELL ME UNDER WHAT SECTION CAN WE CHANGE FROM COT TO VAT..

As you have not done any business so far that idea can be done.First apply for cancellation of RC under COT on no business grounds. Then under a different name(wife,son etc) or same name apply again under VAT scheme for registration. Some changes in Bank a/c and other documents are required.....MJK
