If an assessee is paying premium for his non resident father aged 84 years what is the amount allowed as deduction?

25000 or 30000

Rs. 25,000/- [inference sub-sec. 80D(2)]

The assessee will not get deduction as his father is a non - resident as per the Explanation given for very senior citizen in Section 80D for F.Y.2017-18

https://www.incometaxindia.gov.in/pages/acts/income-tax-act.aspx

But in DTAA IN icai material they have allowed the assessee a deduction of RS. 25000 as he is a non resident

Saw the Solution given by ICAI,from that I think its being said that the extra benefit of 5000 which a resident senior citizen is getting will not be there for non resident senior citizen.

25000 additional deduction of rs 5000 for senior citizen will be available only if they are resident in the previous year for which you are claiming deductuon under section 80d
