Total premium amounted to Rs 44426/-. Rs 22213/- was paid from my bank a/c and Rs 22213/- from her bank a/c.

Sir,
Since both of you being senior citizens and premium paid by cheque from your taxable income you are
eligible to claim upto Rs.30000/- each subject to the actual premium paid .Rs. 22,213/- is allowable as deduction for both.
As per the amendment made to Sec 80D.
