8 reasons why isca should be sacked from ca syllabus

Here are the TOP 8 Reasons why ISCA should be removed (or atleast should be redrafted) from CA Syllabus:

1. The syllabus as such is poorly vetted.

(For example, Chapter 8 is titled as "Emerging Technologies" but the concepts explained therein are almost as old as most of the examinees' age).

2. There is no inter linkage between chapers.

3. All it ends up testing is the "Mug Up" Capacity of the examinee.

4. Paper correction methodology is also largely poor.

(Most Examiners dont even read the contents written by examinee in full).

5. The examination unfortunately does not tests the practical knowledge of the examinee.

6. The case study given as Question No:1 is virtually a Gimmick and ends up testing the "mug-up capacity" of the examinee.

7. The knowledge expected as per ICAI is "Expert Knowledge" but what they really mean is "Expert Mugging Knowledge"

8. No examinee can Drive home "a Knowledge Gain" after writing/passing ISCA.

The views expressed are my personal.

Scrapping a paper like ISCA is uncalled for, rather it needs to be refined and revived with contemporary topics that will be useful to members practically.

Yes, it is always tough for a non-technical person to understand too many technical stuff which is not his / her forte.

In the day and age of technology revolution, if CA's are not equipped to handle Information Technology, they become virtually redundant. I agree there is lot desired from Institute's end to gear up members for the big Digital India challenge, but that does not mean you take away the spirit behind having a subject related to Technology.

CA students are required to have knowledge of computer and they get experience during tenure of articleship. No theory subject is required for this. Also there is advance itt training which also imparts knowledge of computer.
ICAI teaches isca to its CA Final student and IT to its ipcc student if icai is so keen of this technology driven subjects and they why ICAI don't conduct the election of its members electronically. Further, our admissions process etc are also manual, thought ICAI teaches its student isca/IT but still the students are forced to stand in queue while taking admission. Look at the cs institute (ICSI) there almost everything is electronic. This is called as real development...
Yes, lot of changes is desired from the Institute. The thinking and implementation may be slow but that doesn't take away importance of computer related subject. There is lacuna in the present system of evaluating students knowledge in a practical paper like ISCA but when things are not taught with right tools and techniques, naturally it will lead to lot of discontent. But institute should adopt remedial strategy to gear up next generation members for big revolutions occurring in outer world than scrap an important subject. It needs forethought and vision to adopt IT enabled tools in our day to day life and institute must tie up with advanced foreign universities to prepare best course material.
When the Institute will grow to a higher level it will manage to mandate IT Audit for Indian entities, that is when we will find ourselves an edge.
Yes but isca is the only one subject through which result is maintained by icai . It is main subject to maintain the result and students should have knowledge of modern technology while going into the corporate world however some points should be replaced and new technology which are relevant and useful for present

Man You get marks is isca if you write same points as mentioned in study material.

Teachers like Swapnil Patni itself says that you should cram exact points and try to feed the points in your mind by verious techniques.

Boss Mr.Sathish M

Is their any "Intellectual knowledge gain" after reading the present ISCA Syllabus?

ISCA is the best device to control the result, it was proven in Nov 2011 and May 2013.Miserably heavy load on the student's head.If you are able to cram the subject you can get 60+ and if you try to understand the concept there is no hope of getting through the exam. One thing I want to mention clearly that, the examiner checks the papers according to the model answer set given by ICAI to him/her and there would be no negligence shown in the correction of the answer sheets.

80% of ISCA syllabus is memory based, people having more memory power can pass ISCA, But people having conceptual knowledge and less memory power cannot pass ISCA. ISCA should be removed or the exam should be computer based like CISA and DISA.

another point here is icai only wants Sm type answer same to same the one who have capacity to raatafied can easily gets marks and they secured rank also eventhough they dont understand logic behind the syllabus and others who understant it properly and write in there own words cannot get marks eventhough answer is correct and they fail  its happening in all the papers in all the levels

Yes agree with mr mahesh rajput ICSI is best in use of technology from the process of registration and answer quereies immediately with in short span of time

one thing about ISCA i would definitely like to share. I have seen many good students who have failed only becoz of isca .....and stuck in CA final ....they have got 200+ but not able to clear only due to isca ...so its a serious concern....we cannot expect CA to know everything in his field ....for e.g if a person has some computer problem then he will call a IT engineer ...its not that CA will learn and do by itself...everything is not required for CA ....reasonable knowledge was gained from IT in PCC/IPCC ....for e.g if audit is to done for system audit then CISA or DISA not sure... but can do that ....so too much pressure on CA students by alienate subjects is not required ...

I strongly support the issue that ISCA should be scrapped and why not introduce economics in place of it. lets face it that CA's are really poor when it comes to talk about economic policy or stock market or how the forex market works. ISCA is nothing but tests your cramming power and the CA syllabus should be based on conceptual study rather than mugging up. ICAI should provide an intellectually and stimulating environment to the students. But like always it will be a matter of debate and all the buttheads at the council will look up to their comfort rather than lifting the profession.
