“Companies will find it difficult to offer large stakes to PE players unless there is clarity on classification of their stake in the company at the time of it going public.

 

The new rule implies that any company listing its securities on a stock exchange will be required to have a public float of at least 25%. Already, listed companies with a public float of less than 25% have to mandatorily raise their public shareholding by a minimum of 5% every year till it reaches 25%.
