Help - got a letter from income tax asking information.

527 views 10 replies

I have received a letter from IT department of my own city stating that the department is in posession of information that I have entered in to financial transaction(s), as per details given below without quoting my PAN.
And the details given just below that line are around 15 Lakhs of Cash Deposit in FY 13-14 and assessment year 14-15.

I have been asked to furnish a source of cash deposit in my account. However I have not done any kind of this transaction mentioned in year 13-14. I mean I had a good turnover in that period but never deposited that much of cash in my account.

1) How can I furnish a reply?

2) Is it possible to ask what information they are in posession of?

3) The time limit to reply is within 7 days after receiving this lettter, is there anyway to present an application to the local IT officer to extend the date?

Note: The letter came from local IT office and there is signature of local IT officer below, is it even a genuine letter or just mischeif of someone just to grab some money?

That's strange then, actually all my ITR are filed by my income tax lawyer and he intentionally keeps my passwords, heck he keeps passwords of all of his clients and email addresses are also changed, so am not able to check even the email attached to my income tax account.
Is there anyway to check the authenticity of this letter? I have received it from speed post.

If you are using Net banking facility than you can access your Income Tax efiling account from there and for that you are not required any password. You can on your own way change the password.

There may be outward number on notice also. If it is not than you can further check about notice to be legal.

Secondly if you are sure about your financial transaction than you simply go to department and enquire about same.

simply go to IT officer from whom the notice has raised. if u have not make any such transaction make sure to get photo copies of ur bank account & show him. don't forget to take original copy of such notice with you to show him. all your transaction

Never go to lawyers for filling Income tax return, only rely on a CA, learn this lesson and spread it to your friends.

If you need any assistance than you can mail me on sandip02 @ gmail.com.  But I suppose you should check your efiling account first.

Thanks everyone for your valuable advices and I really appreciate Sandip for being so generous, am going to meet the consulted officer today and ask what information they are in posession of.

Just to let you know guys that I checked my income tax account and there is no such compliances generated inside my account.
