Section - 1 - Short title, extent and commencement

SECURITIES AND EXCHANGE BOARD OF INDIA ACT, 1992

An Act to provide for the establishment of a Board to protect the interests of investors in securities and to promote the development of, and to regulate, the securities market and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto BE it enacted by Parliament in the Forty-third Year of the Republic of India as follows:

CHAPTER I

PRELIMINARY

Short title, extent and commencement.

1. (1) This Act may be called the Securities and Exchange Board of India Act, 1992.

(2) It extends to the whole of India.

(3) It shall be deemed to have come into force on the 30th day of January, 1992.
