Paperless Customs – Electronic Communication of PDF based Gatepass and OOC Copy of Bill of Entry to Custom Brokers/Importers

Quick Summary

To streamline customs clearance and reduce physical contact during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC) is introducing paperless customs procedures. Importers and customs brokers will now receive PDF versions of the final 'Out of Charge' (eOoC) copy of the Bill of Entry and the eGatepass electronically via email. FAQ :

The main purpose is to facilitate and expedite customs clearance by making the process more contactless, automated, online, and paperless, especially in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The electronic communication will include the PDF-based final 'Out of Charge' (eOoC) copy of the Bill of Entry and the eGatepass.

Both the eOoC copy of the Bill of Entry and the eGatepass will have digitally signed and encrypted QR codes. These can be scanned using the Mobile App ICETRAK to verify authenticity and tamper-proofing.

The benefits include reducing physical interface between customs authorities and importers/brokers, eliminating the need for bulky printouts, reducing transaction costs, and speeding up customs clearances.

This measure will be effective from 15th April, 2020.

The eGatepass will contain details necessary for the Custodian or Gate Officer to allow the physical movement of goods, such as IGM/Bill of Lading and container/package details.
