The Ministry of Finance, Department of Economic Affairs, has officially announced the appointment of Shri K. Sanjay Murthy as the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India. The notification, issued on November 18, 2024, confirms that Shri Murthy will assume the prestigious role effective from the date he takes charge of his office.
The appointment was made under the authority granted by clause (1) of Article 148 of the Constitution of India, with the President's approval. Shri Murthy succeeds his predecessor and is expected to oversee the critical responsibilities of auditing government expenditures and ensuring fiscal accountability across Union and State governments.
