By an oversight I uploaded purchase bills instead of sales invoices in GSTR1 for the month of March 2018, FY 17-18. Can I rectify the same now since the last date was 31.3.2019 ?

As you have rightly mentioned, the due date to upload correct details for march 2018 is lapsed. As a remedy you can try the below :
1. Give correct details in Annual returns which are due to be filed on Nov 2019;
2. Inform those registered persons not to avail credit passed on by you in march 2018
3. File correct details in April 2018 returns so that your customers are ensured with correct credit.
4. Appraise your jurisdictional officer with the above correction made.
