Wrong income stated in belated return filed.

Hi,

I have filed my Income tax return for AY 2013-14 ON 28TH September 2013, the due date for the same was 31st July. Thus as it is a belated return and I am aware that it cannot be revised.

In the return i have entered Income from Other Sources - Interest Income(IFOS) as 88600, instead of correct amount 58600. The above was a plain typing error. But in haste I validated the return and tax payable is shown as 3460! This goof up I noticed only on opening the ITR-V for printing purpose. The above return was signed by a digital signature.

Although as per an amendment , AY 2013-14 onwards an Income tax return cannot be filed when it shows tax payable, but still in my case the same got validated, xml was generated and I was able to upload the return without any glitches!!

Please tell me what is the solution for my problem. Can I go for rectification?. But even for that I will have to wait for an intimation from CPC. Are there any other options for me?

Thanks

I am not sure if this will work. ITR V is to be sent to CPC within 120 days, and if not sent, then the return becomes invalid. Since you have already crossed the 31st july deadline, you might as well file fresh ITR after 120 days.

Wait for others to reply.

I dont have that option Mihir as I have signed my return with a digital signature . Thus the ITR V clearly shows "DO NOT SEND THIS TO BANGALORE"...sad There was an Amendment either FA 2012 OR FA 2013 (not sure) about an income tax return being defective if there is pending tax payment. So I hope that applies in my case....Is rectification an option for me??
