Work Contract Tax

WCT is a nature of transaction which is taxable under VAT as well as service tax. 

wct is like TDS deducted by a payer as specified by law

Can anybody tell me what is work contract Tax ? Is it like Vat?

               actually it is a composite contract i.e it involves material as well as labour

tell me is w.c.t of chennai can adjust (set off) against vat liability of maharashtra.

if we had deducted a work contract tax. please suggest me in the payment method to the department. i.e., which challan is applicable(281 challan or any other) and where we had to pay this tax, either in the banks or in the department itself.
