my father worked in cisf which comes under central armed police forces. after his death (on duty not in action) my mother is receiving family pension 42000 per month. I want to know if it is taxable or exempt.

Quick Summary
This discussion clarifies the taxability of family pensions for widows of CISF personnel. Generally, family pensions are taxable, but an exemption is available. You can deduct either one-third of the total family pension or £15,000, whichever is less, from the annual pension amount. The remaining sum is then subject to income tax. Additionally, medical expenses can be claimed separately under Section 80D of the Income Tax Act, up to the prescribed limits.
Where's the death of a person or member has occurred in the course of operational duties subject to some prescribed condition is exempt from tax other wise it is taxable with a exemption limit of 15000 or 1/3 of your family pension deducted the minimum from your family pension and rest will be taxable under income from other sources
Thank you for the insight, also if you could guide me where to read about it completely. operational duties mean that in action or while on duty ? and also if the whole pension is taxable or certain portions of it (exempt for like medical bill 2000 per month).
I learnt in my training period so now giving you article is little bit difficult for me but will try
You can google sir I think there's might be some articles about it not sure but will be
Whole pension is not taxable
From pension you have to deduct 1/3 of pension
Or 15000 which ever is less
After deducting the amount the rest will be taxable and regarding medical bills there is a seperate session for it to claim under section 80D upto exemption limit as per income tax act
