Why dr is used fro debit

anyone knows that  we use Cr. for credit 
so why we use Dr for debit
the ques t  is cheap
but plzz help me
thnxxxx n advanceyes

DR and CR are abbreviations of latin words, debit in latin is 'depere' (meaning 'to owe') and credit is 'credere' (meaning 'to believe')
