Hi

I am a Chartered Accountant from India and am interested in pursuing the CPA course. As i understand from the umpteen websites including NASBA and AICPA, different states have different rules wrt giving CPA exam. An Indian Chartered Accountant is eligible for taking exams only from a few states of the US. Is anyone aware which are these states. it would be of real help to me.

Hi Rawat,

As an Indian CA we donot get any credit relating to eligibility as most states require 150 credit hours of academic course (CA is considred as a professional course). However some states liek Maine & New Hampshire even allow cadidates having 120 hours too.

If you are an M.Com you can meet the 150 credit hours criteria and can take CPA exam from all states in US. However if you are a B.Com very few states u will be eligible.

Visit the website www.ipasscpaexam.com

Its very comprehensive and give u state wise eligibility in a conscise form.

Hope it helps1

Hi Rawat,

If you have completed your graduation and CA then you are eligible to register under Alaska board. to check your eligibility and registering with the alaska board you can avail the services of ERES. Mail to be sent to paul @ eres.com Mr Paul would be glad to help you out.

You have got it correct with the different States having different eligibility rules part. Given that you have the 120 credits to write the exams, you will be eligible in most of the US States.
