What is the change in CA Final costing of the old and new course?

Because I was poor in ISCA, I transitioned to New course, I took SCMPE exam in July 2021 & AMA in Nov. 2020 so I can provide you some light on the difference between both AMA (called as CA Final Costing old course) & SCMPE (also called CA Final Costing New Course) syllabus.

There is a drastic change in both New Course & Old Course for CA Final Costing subject.

Questions are more focused on analytical thinking and self-thinking ability is being tested in the exams.

Basically ‘Case Study’ & ‘Case Scenario’ based questions are added in the syllabus which involves the Application of knowledge of different costing concepts and 2 Q.T./O.R. chapters. Mostly there are case studies/scenarios with 4-6 questions in them, mostly co-related with each other.

Changes in chapters are as follows:

1. Chapters like Assignment, Transportation, Simulation, and PERT/CPM are removed from the syllabus of New course.

2. Only application portion from chapters such as Linear programming and Learning curve come.

3. Several new topics such as Value Chain Analysis, Supply Chain Management, Performance Measurement and Evaluation, Beyond Budgeting, etc. are added in the New Course.

4. ABC has been shifted to an advanced level with activity based management and activity based budgeting.

5. Advance Variances of Activity Based Costing, etc. comes in Standard Costing and Case study based questions comes in Relevant Costing.

As majority of teachers are still teaching old syllabus in name of new syllabus and still referring old course practice manual in name of new course, I would suggest that you guys should do proper research to find out a good teacher esp. for costing.

I am glad that I chose Parag Gupta sir. But I did my proper research by checking out demo lectures, I also talked to students of Parag Gupta sir. Parag Gupta sir focuses only on new syllabus of ICAI. He does not mixes old and new syllabus. Parag Gupta sir teaches you in such a manner that you will not left with any doubts and if you are left with any doubts you are free to talk to him & the best thing is he is very liberal & always welcomes you with your doubts. As of now, I would say there is no other teacher who is taking such hardship for students. His concept clarity is just THE BEST.
