Quick Summary
This discussion clarifies the calculation of total income for an individual receiving dividend income and incurring interest expenses on a loan taken for investment. It explains that while a portion of the dividend may be exempt, the interest expense incurred to earn that dividend is deductible, albeit capped at 20% of the dividend income, as per amended Section 57 of the Income Tax Act, 1961. This leads to a revised taxable income figure.

960000 ok
How???

10 lakh will be exempted under section 10(34 )and remaining 200000 will be charged under section 115 BBDA.
Please clarify
Mr Gopal you are right.
As per the amended section 57 of the Income Tax Act, 1961 ('Act'), interest expense incurred for the purpose of earning the dividend income would be allowed as a deduction up to a maximum of 20% of such income
So answer will be 960000
