Quick Summary
This discussion clarifies the tax treatment of sales commissions. While sales commission is generally considered part of salary and subject to TDS, it can be eligible for a refund if your total taxable income falls below certain thresholds, such as Rs 5 lakh, and you qualify for rebate under Section 87A. Ensure you declare all commission income in your Income Tax Return (ITR) and correctly claim the TDS deducted against your tax liability; any excess can then be claimed as a refund.

YOU NEED TO DECLARE THE COMMISSION INCOME IN YOUR ITR ALONG WITH OTHER INCOMES, AND ADJUST THE TDS AGAINST ANY TAX LIABILITY.

EXCESS AMOUNT CAN BE CLAIMED AS REFUND.

Thank you Sir, the total taxable income is less than Rs 500000 and any tax on it , rebate us 87A applicables. while I am filing the return, the refund portion on sales commission is not reflecting.kindly clarify.

WHEN YOUR TAX LIABILITY IS NIL, ALL THE TAXES PAID WILL BE REFUNDABLE. CHECK THE MISTAKE IF THE COMMISSION INCOME BE NOT DECLARED; OR THE TDS COLUMN IS NOT RECTIFIED FOR ITS CLAIM.
