Tds on payment to freelancer

TDS 386 views 2 replies

We are an LLP and did not have tax audit as turnover was not more than 40lakh in the previous financial year.

We have a freelancer (an individual person) working for us and the person charges us at an hourly rate. The amount we have paid so far does not exceed 30k. However, I am sure that it will exceed 30k in this financial year if we continue to use the services of that person in this year.

When should we start deducting TDS under 194J? When the amount exceeds 30K? Or we should start deducting amount right now?

You need to deduct TDS right now

The TDS amount to be deducted u/s. 194J...... will be aggregate amount paid in the year......

So, even if you start deducting now or when you cross the exemption limit, the TDS will be required to be deducted on earlier payments also. So, better to deduct from beginning.
