Quick Summary
This discussion explores the tax implications of Fixed Deposit (FD) interest earned in India when the funds are sent by a husband living abroad to his wife in India. Experts clarify that the interest income is generally taxable in the hands of the FD holder. However, if the FD is in the wife's name, clubbing provisions may apply, potentially taxing the income in the husband's hands, even if he is a non-resident taxpayer. The query further questions the tax rate and the specific individual liable for tax in such scenarios.

Interest income taxable in the hands of the FD holder, generally 1st holder PAN mentioned on FD
If the fd is in husband's name, interest income will straight away be taxed in his hands.

if it is in wife name, clubbing provisions would be applicable and still taxed in Husband's hands
But husband is taxpayer outside india then still income will be clubbed? and if yes then what would be tax rate
Yes Indian income would be taxable at normal rates.
But in whose hands as husband is outside tax payer and wife has no other income
