Taxability of ex-gratia payment in service
When an employee died in employment and on ex-gratia spouse is paid salary without work, is the payment taxable or not?

Made ex-gratia or voluntary by an employer and not conditioned by any legal duty or legal obligation, whether due to a sympathetic reason or otherwise, such a payment is not to be treated as 'profits in lieu of salary'.
