Quick Summary
A taxpayer is facing a tax demand from the ITO for the assessment year 2005-2006, despite having paid advance tax. The bank is unable to provide confirmation for this old transaction, leaving the taxpayer unsure how to proceed. Advice suggests using bank statements or passbooks as proof of payment, and requesting a formal confirmation letter from the bank, even if it incurs charges.

If you have paid through banking mode, provide the details from your bank passbook or statement.

In case by cash, little chance of convincing ITO.

I have made Payment through cash at Bank counter. can i get confirmation of payment letter from bank and submit the same to ITO

Bank should oblige to your written request with offer to pay liable charges.

Send a letter requesting for a confirmation and submit ASAP.
Does bank retain 21year old record. If not how to convince ITO regarding the payment transaction
