TAN Number for two proprietorship firm

If a person has two sole proprietorship firm namely A and B. A & B both are paying professional fees to a firm name C Rs. 25,000/- each.

Now my question is that whether A and B are required to deduct TDS on professional fees.

And if yes whether we have to apply for TAN separately for each firm

Quick Summary
This discussion addresses whether two separate sole proprietorship firms, A and B, need to deduct Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) on professional fees paid to a third firm, C. The key question is whether a separate Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number (TAN) is required for each proprietorship. The consensus suggests that while a TAN might not be mandatory, it is advisable, and PAN is essential for TDS compliance.

1. Yes.

2. Not mandatory, but advisable.

Deduct professional fees under sec 194JJ 10%
TAN IS NOT MANDATORY BUT PAN IS MANDATORY
