A person who register himself for gst and he gets the gst number. He works as an agent in RTO office first he files monthly 2-3 returns but after that he stops filing returns. His turnover had never crossed 20lakhs limits. Now he wants to surrender his GST number.

Is it possible easily as he now stops doing that work.

If the person has taken voluntary registration then only after 1 year from the date of registration he/she can apply for surrender of GST
But what will happen for not filing monthly returns. Is penalty will be charged in this case?
yes , penalty will be levied
Once Registration under GST has been taken, then filing Returns becomes mandatory even if no business transaction took place in a particular month ( i.e. NIL RETURN ).

Late fees @ Rs.10 per day per Act ( CGST @ 10 + SGST @ 10 = Rs. 20 ) will be levied if return not filed within the due date incase of NIL RETURN.

You cannot proceed to cancel your Registration unless all Returns have been filed.

Warm Regards.
