Surrender of DIN in case of death

For surrender of DIN in case of death of a director we need to file e-Form DIR-5. Is there any other compliance?

what are the consequences if the DIN is not surrrendered?

You should surrender the DIN in DIR 5 it is mandatory, no other compliance is required. If DIN is not surrendered then penalty might be applicable
