Suggestion / guidence

I have given final exams in May (not my first or second attempt). But, what I did the worst was the 2 years break after articles, just as a learning period, though i would do freelance to my dad and some others, I wouldnt have specific work experience to specify in my CV.

Moreover now I have been to a couple of companies post exams as semi qualified but they say "you are awaiting results.." and they reject me, even though intervirew went well, fearing I would leave the company post results or ask for leave.

I am planning to join back my own firm where I did articles, atleast for next 1-2 mths. I just wanted to know will this be much of a thing ? Are the decisions correct ? How do i get back in time ? Plz suggest...

Hi, There is no need to lose heart so fast. The situation you are in is a general one which most of the CA Final students face. You must start with whatever opportunity you get immediately, be it the firm you did your articles from or any other firm/company. What you need right now is to bridge the 2 year gap by gaining the practical knowledge of anything and everything. You will slowly get hold of things once you start working because practical knowledge will always help you advance in your career, maybe even more than the theoretical knowledge or the CA degree, for that matter. So, don't lose hope so soon and just start working. This will help you get updated with the trending updates of the CA fraternity. P.s. Try doing the 3 month contractual job in Global Big 4s. That will give you a much needed brand and knowledge boost. Check the websites of EYGDS, Deloitte USI etc.

Hi Varun,

First of all, you need to stop doubting your decisions and overthinking about the direction your career is taking. This will affect you even more and you need to overcome this mind-set as quickly as you can.

To be honest, we all have undergone this and this is a part of the journey. We all have made mistakes and taken wrong decisions. I am sure you must have learnt many new things during that two year gap. It is not right to measure everything in terms of its significance in our resume.

I would suggest you to make up your mind about what is currently more important for you and your family: CA degree or job. If it is the former, you should not think about any job for now, and rather focus on one of the groups for November attempt. If you'll clear even one of the groups, everything will get back on track and I am sure you'll stop having such negative thoughts.

If your financial condition or your family wants you to work and earn, I'll suggest you to stop saying in interviews that you are awaiting your result etc. and rather discreetly manage your studies along with work without bringing it in the notice of employer. I'll never suggest anyone to drop out after coming this far. All the very best Varun. Take care.
