In TallyPrime, Stock Group and Stock Category are two separate classification methods for inventory management.
Here's the difference: Stock Group: -
A Stock Group is a higher-level classification that groups similar stock items together based on their characteristics, such as Raw Materials, Finished Goods, Packing Materials, etc. -
It helps in categorizing and reporting stock items at a broader level.
Stock Category: - A Stock Category is a sub-classification within a Stock Group that further segregates stock items based on specific attributes like product type, material, size, etc. - It provides a more detailed classification and helps in accurate tracking and reporting of stock items.
Usage in Plant Accounting: - Raw Materials:
Typically come under the Stock Group "Raw Materials" and can be further categorized into Stock Categories like "Raw Material A", "Raw Material B", etc. - Finished Goods: Usually come under the Stock Group "
