The best strategy would be not to leave it completely.
Between Amalgamation and Consolidation, prepare 1 topic thoroughly and for the other, just working knowledge is fine (so that you're able to attempt a general question).
Both these questions come in the exam and both questions cannot be tricky, one has to be a basic question (also, if you do a trend analysis, you'll see that Consolidation questions are simpler compared to amalgamation)
