Single company single cst

I would like to know whether a company having site offices in different states of the state can have different CST number or it will have just one CST number for the company as a whole. As regards the VAT is concerned, certainly there will be diff, numbers for differ. states but in the case of CST i really doubt that how the CST number can  be diff. for diff. states
