The preamble to the companies act 2012 states that it is an act to repeal the companies act 1956. i haven't got chance as yet to go through the same and therefore have this query .
Is this act an extension of the earlier act or that the older act (being repealed in entirety ) has been rendered inapplicable now ? I mean is the companies act 2012 an entire act in itself covering all aspects of companies law or just some provisons here and there ???

Your opening line itself says it is an act to repeal the old one.
If the govt. repeals a law, it officially ends it, so that it is no longer valid.
