Exemption in CA Exams mean 60 or 60+ marks in any subject.

You have to Score 40% marks in each individual subject and 50% marks in aggregate.

In simple language, you have to score 40 out of 100 in each subject AND 200 out of 400 (for sinlge group)as a total or 350 our of 700 (for both groups).

If you are unable to fulfill any of above mentioned conditions you will have to reappear in CA IPCC Group 1 Exams in next attempts for ALL subjects.

But if you got Exemption in any subject (means 60 or above) then you will not have to reappear in that particular subject again. You have to attempt only remaing exams.

Exemption can be claimed in any one or more subjects.

But during your attempt suppose you got 61 in Acc, 39 in Law and absent in other. You can't claim exemption because as per ICAI guidlines you must be present in all exams to claim exemption.

Set off is nothing but just a common word.

Example:

Subjects Marks
Accounting 60
Law  45
CAFM 50
Taxation 50
Total 205

In this case, you required 200 to clear your exams so Accounting has helped to set off the lower marks of Law. Set off is that part of marks of subject which has helped to balance your aggregate.

You are now in CA IPCC, you will read meaning of Set off in detail in Taxation and Law. Don't panic, it's just a general vocabulary.

Thanks a lot Rohit, really these words are from bottom of my heart :)

hi sir,

  nov2014 is acc-41,law-21,cost-38,tax-61

may2015 is acc-60,law-29,cost-25

HI KALIMUTHU,

THE ONLY CONDITION FOR CLAIMING EXEMPTION IN A GROUP ( IN ANY LEVEL) IS TO ATTEMPT ALL THE PAPERS IN THAT GROUP.

SO U DONT HAVE A CHOICE TO CLAIM EXEMPTION IN ACCOUNTS.
