I want to know that in case of service tax, if a person has taken service tax registration, and after few years his gross receipt comes to below Rs. 10,00,000/- whether filling of Nil return is compulsory ? If so how much penalty should be ?

i dont know how you can file nil returns
i am of the opinion that you will have to collect and pay service tax once you have the registration . filing nil returns wont occur
please correct if i am wrong

Mr. Praveen, you are not right possibilities are there for nil return in case you are having more input or you are below minimum receipts limit.
In case of penalty Mr. deepak if you have not intimated autorities for the condition the penalties will be as in normal case of delayed returns which is Rs. 100 per day maximum upto 2000 as per best of my knowledge.

As per budget maximum penalty has been increased to Rs 20000

Return is compulsory for all registrants. Under exemption, nil return can be filed. If failed to file nil return , Officer has power to condone delay and waive penalty.
