service tax on freight

Sir,

    We. a proprieter firm, pay about Rs.14000/- at one time,  individually,  fifteen times a year to individual truck owners who transport our goods.The goods are puchased from proprietory concerns.  What is the service tax rules , who should pay and how much?

you will have to pay service tax @ 10.3% but only on those bills of the transporter which are more than Rs.750. the service tax @ 10.3% will be calculated on 25% of the amount of the bill of the transporter.
