Self Assessment tax was paid mistakenly after filing ITR

Dear Experts,

I mistakenly paid self assessment tax of Rs. 10,000/- for the AY 2020-21 after filing my ITR for the same AY. As a result of that, the payment was not taken into account in the intimation u/s 143(1). The date of filing revised ITR is over. How can I refund the said tax now?

Quick Summary
A user mistakenly paid £10,000 in self-assessment tax for AY 2020-21 after filing their ITR, and this payment wasn't reflected in the tax intimation. Since the deadline for filing a revised ITR has passed, the user is seeking advice on how to obtain a refund. The recommended solution involves filing a rectification request under Section 154, which can only be done after the tax return has been processed. As the new IT portal currently lacks this option, the user may need to submit a letter to their Assessing Officer (AO).

FILE RECTIFICATION REQUEST FOR TAX CREDIT MISMATCH.

Do you mean rectification request u/s 154? The new IT portal still hasn't added that option. Can I file rectification through a letter to the AO?

Yes, that is the only option available now..

Can Rectification be filed before the processing of tax return?

Can Rectification be filed after the tax return has been processed?

My dear, the query is for AY 2020-21; for which the ITR was filed, and return got processed with demand, as the self assessment tax was not taken into consideration.

ANS to your question:::  Rectification request can only be filed after the processing of return!!!
