please tell that whether AO can ask information from assessee under sec 142 (2) even if the time of return has not yet arrived ???? please provide answer with reasons

Since u asked "Can AO call............ "
Answer - Yes, he has that power, since the provision no where specified the condition of due date...
But appreciate the practical part - had u asked "Will AO call........"
Answer - No, except in exceptional circumstances....
Further acts of AO's are generally guided by the CBDT instructions so that AO's dont misuse their powers.......
