Rupee Declines By 36 Paise Against US Dollar in Early Trade

Mumbai: The Indian rupee fell by 36 paise to Rs 53.06 per US dollar in early trade Monday, weighed down by gains posted by the American currency against other peers overseas amid a lower opening in the domestic equity market.

The domestic currency had notched up a smart gain of 94 paise to close at Rs 52.70/71 against the dollar in the previous session on fresh selling of the US currency after the RBI took steps to stem the fall of the rupee.

Dealers said weakness of the euro and other Asian currencies against the dollar overseas and a lower opening in the domestic stock market mainly put pressure on the rupee in early trade today.

Meanwhile, the BSE Sens*x fell by 208.42 points, or 1.35 percent, to 15,282.93 in opening trade.
