Dear Friends, need professional inputs on following query: which ITR form is to be filed by a University Professor who earns salary from University and also earns income by way of royalty on books written by him, i have seen few people filing ITR 1 and few people filing ITR 4, and is there any other expense which is allowed other than deduction u/s 80qqb?

Royalty earned comes under Other Sources unless the profession of the person is writing books in which case it can be under Business or profession. A royalty earned by a teacher/professor would be Under other sources normally. No other deduction other than 80QQB would be available

Thank You Sir for your Valuable inputs, my next question would be, in this specific case as he is in full time employment as professor and also writes books so royalty income will come under other sources, but in case someone has income only from royalty on books his income will come under business and profession as suggested by you, if that is the case than he will be allowed deduction for other expenses or still the deduction will be restricted to u/s 80qqb?
