Response to confirm/Revise claim of refund

Hi,

I have received this notice.

Your income-tax return has been identified under risk management process of the Income-Tax Department. In this context, your confirmation is required on the following claim(s)/deduction(s)/omissions in the return.

Reason: It is seen that you have revised your return of reduced gross total income. Verify correctness in your claim in respect of reduced gross total income in your return of income.

This is unfortunate. I am jobless and my income is dependent on FD rates and other investments and some gains from share market. This year its less than last year.

I have not revised any return. It's the only original submission for AY22-23 and it's correct. I will respond as

claims in my return of income are correct

Does anyone knows what happens hereafter? Should I forget my refund for an indefinite time now?

Thanks

As seen on income tax Twitter....many are being issued such conformation letters to conform their refund claim.
Now if you have correctly claimed refund & have all supportive documents and filed correct refunds then choose yes else file revised return. Check for mismatch of refund filed with 26AS and AIReport.
U will have to go to worklist and choose the option as per your return filing claims
If nothing shows up in worklist then waite till it is updated
Also file grivence if option is not yet updated in worklist
After your confirmation your ITR will be processed

Thank you for your reply. My concern is why IT dept is under a wrong impression that I revised my return! Is it simply case of poor english?

I called helpdesk and the executive asked me to ignore that reason message in mail and just proceed with response as appropriate. Even executive verified from his end that he sees original return. There is no revision at all.

Interestingly some entries are missing in AIS which I have included in my return e.g. if AIS shows my Bank interest income as say 12000 actually it is say 15000 which is correctly recorded in ITR2!

Common statement send ignoring the contents in each individual cases
Check again your income reflected in AIS/26AS.

Form26as is correct and used as ref for filing my return. Not AIS. All entries in ITR match with that of 26as.

Confirm your claim as correct and submit the response
Check AIS also then confirm your refund.

It would be ridiculous if they ask me to revise return based on AIS values. The refund amount would then in principle increase as many entries are missing in AIS. I don't understand why they made multiple system, made it complex and in the end data does not match.

BTW I submitted my response as refund claim is correct.

What happens after this? Does anyone know?

Your return and refund will be processed after this.

what I am coming to is that the very reason I get this notice to confirm refund or revise return is a doubt in mind of IT that my return is not correct (Though it's based on all actual data from my side matching with 26as).

So I don't understand this farce. Just tell me what you think is wrong and show me what is wrong.

Are they now simply going to trust me for what I have submitted as response and give me refund or another bigger surprise awaits now??

Please stop overthinking and enjoy the refund. Somethings you have to ignore. This is one such thing.

Just wait for intimation now, if return will be processed then nothing to worry.

I have received email but nothing is there in pending action under worklist. what to do?

It will come in next day! should be in by now.
