whether it is compulsory to get registration under GST for recovery agent.

According to Section 24 of the CGST Act 2017,Compulsory registration required if Persons who make taxable supply of goods or services or both on behalf of other taxable persons whether as an agent or otherwise.
However, The services by a recovery agent for bank are covered under reverse charge mechanism under GST. The invoice should be issued to banks under RCM.
