Re Service Tax Return

Service Tax Rates came down to 10%  w.e.f. 24.02.2009.

V r utilising the services of Goods Transport Carriers and accordingly paying service tax.

In the ST-3 return, should the amounts for Feb(after 24th) and March be entered in column for 12% or column of 10%?

Anybody can throw light on the matter?

The date of your payment to the transporters would be relevant. If you have paid them after the 24th then it is 10% as per my view based on similar ruling in central excise.

No, I meant in the Return FOrm, there are columns for the different rates of tax. SInce the rates have been brought down, should the taxes at the reduced rates be mentioned alongwiht the 12% rates or should it be shown in 10% column?

service provided to you, by your by Transport Agency till 23.02.2009 would be booked @ 12.36 % and service provided by Transport Agnecy on or after 24.02.2009 would be booked @ 10.30 % and accordingly shown in ST-3 Form (ie. 12 %  and 10 % separately)
