Ram speed and size

My P.C is having 256 M.B size of RAM and 80GB HDD space. For increasing space i'm going to buy External Hard drive, but for data transfer i need to increase RAM size also. So pls suggest me which brand is best for RAM. Ny RAM type is DDR2...?
pls help..?

Also

I have 4 slots available in my computer, Out of 4, 3 is empty. Each slot can hold 1 Gb of space. Also i heard that if i buy RAM crossing the existing limit of RAM, then i t will not support..do u know about this.
Can anyone pls help me out in determining the speed of my RAM.

If i click My Computer and then click the properties, on the general Tab, on the lower right corner some info is reflecting which is given below:
Intel P4 CPU 2.66 GHz, 248 M.B of RAM

wht does this msg denote..?

i mean which clock speed will support my p.c if it has existing clock speed of 533 MHz

This 533 Mhz is i hv determined through a application from crucial.com or Cpuz.com

I wonder ur RAM is DDR2.I dont think so it must be SD.Well if u have Slot for DDR1 or DDR2 u can buy that RAM type.DDR1 is Available in max 1 GB.

Pls clear my doubt.

I'm getting confused between 533 MHz (which i gather from scanning a application downloaded from net) and 2.66 GHz (which i 'm seeing at My computer's properties system general info)
pls describe diff bet them..

Visiter visiting this forum, pls read all question before u ans

Download this software it will show what type of RAM type ur PC is using.......................

i guess that this denotes that the processing speed of your cpu is 2.66ghz. which is ok.

and ram is 248mb...which i guess is quite low .... you should ask your dealer about the max RAM size your cpu can support.

I had a dual core cpu and it supported a max 2gb RAM.

Even my mobile has 1gb ram with dual core 1.2ghz processor :P

Which motherboard You have?if it can support DDR2 ram then go for kingston 2X2 gb ram.you can buy it from anywhere for around 2000 bucks.
If you want some gud performence by ur PC then go for a new motherboard and Proccy.

With a new motherboard u can have DDR3 ram that is much cheaper than DDR2 ram.{1100 for 4 GB}

Don't  buy external hard disk, life of external hards disk is much lesser and it is pretty costly.if u r going to upgrade ur pc soon then go for internal hard drive.

If u want some suggestions on upgrading ur pc then plzz give ur budget and requirements.

Hope it helps

Ya agree with Future CA CS...

2.66 GHz is the clock speed which is ok.. mine is 3.0....

I doubt if DDR 1 RAM is still available.... i once used 1512 MB RAM and the system kept restarting even though i have an Intel orinal 915 GV motherboard.. and the RAM also caused some display problems and then i had to settle for 1GB RAM.... now system is working fine...

rather than buy new RAM, go for a CPU Upgrade... take a core 2 duo, put some 2 or 4 GB DDR2/DDR3 RAM and throw on a 320 GB SATA HDD.... and NVIDIA 4xxx series plus for good graphics performance.... assembled may come to 12-15 thousand.... (Opt fot DVD+R/W Combo drive)

it may come to a bit of money, but dont pump money into an outdated CPU.. You definitely are better off with a faster processor like Future CA CS said.. how old is your CPU? 7 years?

ate leat 3GB RAM, 320GB HDD,

@ everyone

Thank u so much

i think u have to search...that how much ram is supported in your Config ...2.66 ghz Intel P4...i think its fine u can upgrade till 2 gb easily...DDR2...will cost to somwhere around 1400...Simmtronics...Corsair(this ram is expensive around 2400)

2.66 ghz is your prcessor speed
