It is understood that the Council of ICAI has recently decided requiring CAs signing on professional documents to also quote the Registration Number of the Firm. Whether this applies only to a partnership firm where a partner signing on behalf of the firm has to quote the Registration Number of the Firm, or the partner has also to quote his own Membership Number along with the Firm Registration number. Whether the decision requires a member practising in his individual capacity as a sole proprietor also to quote his own Membership Number?. Clarity on this would be welcome.

ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE ATTENTION OF THE MEMBERS The Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), at its 292nd meeting held on January 13, 2010 has decided to require the members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India to: • Include, in addition to the other requirements relating to signature on the audit report, as prescribed under the relevant Standard on Auditing, the registration number of the firm as allotted by ICAI, in the audit reports signed by them ; and • Ensure that the resolution passed by the company regarding appointment of the statutory auditor of the company under section 224 of the Companies Act, 1956, also contain the registration number of the firm of the auditor(s) with the ICAI. As understood from above ,this requirement is for partnership firms as well as proprietor firms.This requirement is only for AUDIT REPORTS. If any contradiction kindly share.
