Query regarding pan card number

I had a PAN card say ABCDE1234X in which my DOB was incorrect but still i filled my IT returns for two years with the same PAN card. After two years i raised request to correct DOB details and they rather than rectifying the older PAN card number, dispatched a PAN card with new PAN number ABCDE6789Z. Now I updated my PAN card in bank accounts and this year i submitted my IT returns with new PAN card number. Is there anything else i have to do because of this change in my PAN card ? I have doubts because my past two IT returns are from old PAN card and new IT return from new PAN card.

Suurender your old PAN card to IT dept. mentioning proper reason.

It is a crime to have 2 PANs.

Also keep the surrender letter with you for future use, as you might be questioned for having 2 PANs, same will reflect in your IT returns & cibil report.

I have read over internet that there is a penalty of Rs 10000 if you have two PAN cards. Do I have to pay this amount ? Is there a way to surrender my PAN without paying this amount ? I know the other PAN card was made by mistake (wanted to rectify the DOB actually) and that i am not involved in any fraud activities. All my IT returns are paid in time.
