Query on tax exemptions u/s 80d

Tax queries 379 views 2 replies

Hi,

I have paid medical insurance premium for my dependent parents.

However, the proposer of the policy is my father and my name does not appear on the policy. The only proof I have here is the credit card statement that shows the premium payment.

Can I still claim tax exemption u/s 80D on the premium paid ?

Thanks,

Nikhil Talreja

In my view you can take benefit u/s 80D

it does not make any difference that your name did not show on policy documents.

it will be enough to prove through passport, voter id card, aadhar card etc that they are your parents this would be good enough.

Thanks for the quick response Sudesh.
