Dear Sir,

One of my client have filed the Income tax return for AY 2007-08 and have also paid the tax amount, and now he have received a notice for the outstanding liability of Rs 46,900 u/s 143(1) for the AY 2007-08. he have refund in AY 2013-14, so they are adjusting the refund amount with outstanding liability. And we dont have any idea why a notice for outstanding liability has been recd. And when we login to his income tax account, we find status as " RETURN UPLOADED " for AY 2007-08. So pls provide us the remedies what shall be done for this case so that he gets his refund back for AY 2013-14and the measures to reply for that outstanding liability for AY 2007-08??

You will have to go through the intimation u/s 143(1). It will show the discrepancies in the assessed income and returned income. Find out the difference.

Section-143(1) is for summary assessment by Assessing Officer on the basis of return filed by the assessee for any arithmetical error or incorrect claim, apparent from any information in the return. Kindly, take the help of a professional, specialized in income tax appellate matters as only he will be able to guide you in preparing submissions required to be submitted in response to the intimation u/s-143(1) for reducing such outstanding liability for A.Y. 2007-08 & claiming refund for A.Y. 2013-14, either fully or if possible, to some extent at least.

First you thoroughly go through the intimation u/s 143(1) and if there are any mistkes apparent from records then you can make an application u/s.154.
