Preventive health check up

1. Deductions u/s 80D can be claimed on mediclaim insurance paid for self or for the family subject to certain conditions. Preventive health check-up can be claimed up to Rs. 5,000 incurred for self and as well as family. 
2. However the above deduction comes within sec 80D, but there is no condition that an individual should need to take Mediclaim insurance in order to claim preventive health check-up expenses. 
3. Hence, preventive health check-up expenses will be allowed to the extent of Rs. 5,000 (max) and it can be paid in cash. 
Please correct me if the above solution has an alternative view.
