As per the above notification of ICAI in the last part, it is written that those students who have cleared either of the group under the old scheme have to clear the next group under the new scheme. I am an old course student I cleared my group 1 of CA final in May 2016. Please help me whether new scheme or old scheme is applicable to my group 2 attempt may 2018

For old students, conversion is not automatic until the maximum permissible no. of attempts have ceased. Therefore, you will have to opt for new course, lest only the old course is applicale to you.
HI Swathi, it is not compulsory to convert from old to new course until after Nov. 2020, which is the last attempt for the old course. This notification is for those who have opted to convert to new course.
So you can give 2nd group in May '18 under old course itself.
