I am facing an Issue while filing ITR1 form AY2021-22 online on 1st Aug 2021 (today). A penalty of 5000/- INR for late filing (section 234F) is being levied, although the deadline for AY2021-22 is extended to 30th Sep 2021. Is anyone else facing this issue and is it this a bug in the software?

Yes this problem has been faced by lot. You should wait for some time then try again
Yes this issue faced lot of person filed ITR of AY 2021-22 please wait 1st weak of august then try i think your problem is solved.
This is fixed in v 1.0.5 of the offline utility. The same might have been incorporated in online as well.
This is a very lousy job by Information Tech vendor (I guess Infosys) who have designed this system. Then it's a myth that Infosys Interview is difficult to crack! Intellectual Idiots are working in there looks like.
I have been hearing terms like Initial Glitch/Technical Glitch/Integration issues since 9-June-21. Despite nearly 2 months gone, the portal is still not reliable!
Well these days every one has 99% and they get engineering B.Tech degrees in payment college and land great job so this is bound to happen!
