My ITR processing for AY2016-17 has been transferred to jurisdictional AO in FY2016-17. I have tried reaching the AO but got a reply he got tranferred. it has been 2 years and i didn't receive any communication and my return is still with AO. Could you pls clarify
1. what is the maximum duration AO hold a return without processing or sending any communication?
2. if the return is held by AO beyond stipulated time can i assume the return as processed?
3. how will the refund get issued when the return is assumed as processed as mentioned in point 2?

It is treated as already been processed, unless any query pending at your end.
Write a letter to AO requesting him to issue refund. and follow up in writing.
